When and where is the PJ 5k?

The 2025 PJ 5k and Kids 1k will be in Waterford Oaks County Park on a Saturday TBD in, February. The Kids 1k will start at 10:30 am and the 5k will start at 11:00 am.

What is the Michigan PJ 5k?

From the same group that created the Michigan Monster Dash, and in partnership with Oakland County Parks and Recreation, Finish Line Runs is excited to announce the first annual PJ 5k!

This is a family-friendly pajama themed winter 5k and Kids 1k. It will be held in conjunction with a much larger Winterfest party at Waterford Oaks County park.

Will there be other events at the park at the same time?

Oh yes! Oakland County Parks Recreation Programs and Services department will provide games and activities for both youth and adults: Smores by the fire, large Jenga, large connect four, cornhole, curling, and painting a snowplow.

Depending on the weather there will be fun winter activities available like sledding and snowshoeing.  All activities are free of charge.  The race will be held at Waterford Oaks County Park.

Will there be a way to stay warm?

Yes. Right next to the starting line will be a large warming tent which will also serve as the hub for all the activities.

Will there be food and drink?

Yes. Warm drinks will be available both before and after the events, and there will be a variety of snacks for the finishers of both events.

Will this be chip timed?

All events are CHIP timed, including the Kids 1K

Will all participants receive a medal and shirt?

Absolutely.

The t-shirt will be a unisex technical shirt.

When and where is packet-pickup?

Packet Pick Up will be located at Lookout Lodge, which is located on the main road within the park all the way at the back.  The road basically dead ends at Lookout Lodge.

Same-day packet pickup will be in the warming tent right next to the starting line.

Can I pick up packets for my friends?

Yes.

Will there be same-day registration?

Yes.

It will be SELF-REGISTRATION.  You can come to this website, or scan the QR code that will be on-site and use your own device to register.  Once you are registered, simply come to the check in tent we will give you your bib and packet.

However, in addition to the slightly increased cost to register late, we can’t guarantee a shirt or medal on race-day for late registrations.  A limited number of extra shirts have been ordered and they will be given out on a first-come-first-served basis.  Once the extra shirts are gone, anyone not receiving one will have it mailed to  them around mid February.

If I arrive late, can I still run?

Yes, but… Because our finish and start line are the same, not long after the 5k starts at 11:00 am, we need to reverse the direction of the chip readers so that they record runners crossing the mats as finishing rather than starting. The latest any runner will be able to start is about 5 minutes after the 5k starts. That being said, we may be able to make individual exceptions. If you can’t make it at the start time, please still come! We will work with you.

Can I run even if I didn’t register?

Yes, but only registered runners with a bib will receive a medal when they cross the finish line.

What kind of surface is the course? And will it be winter-proofed?

Most of the course is paved blacktop. A small section is on a flat and well maintained dirt road.

The entire course will be plowed, salted, and groomed

How long will I have to finish?

The finish line for the 5k will stay open for 1 hour, giving plenty of time for runners, joggers, and walkers of all speeds and abilities.

Is there a fee to enter the park?

No.

Are dogs allowed on the course?

Yes… but… They must be on a short leash, and you MUST pick up after them! We also reserve the right to ask you to exit the course if your dog causes concerns or stress for participants, volunteers, or park visitors.

Are strollers allowed on the course?

Yes! We welcome runners and walkers who would like to push kids in a stroller. No extra registration is required for kids in strollers, unless you want a shirt and a medal for them too. All we ask is that if you think you will be slower than most runners that you line up at the back of the starting gate so faster runners won’t need to navigate around you.

Can parents accompany their children on the 1k course without registering?

Absolutely.

You would only need to register if you would like a medal and a shirt for yourself as well.

If I need to cancel, can I receive a refund?

We wish that were possible. As soon as you register, there are costs associated with your registration that we can’t get back, including (but not limited to) registration fees and your shirt and medal. However, if this comes up, please reach out to us. While a refund isn’t possible, we’ll still work together to find other options.

We want you to be happy.
